Exercise Physiology is a specialised allied health service that focuses on the assessment, prescription, and management of exercise for people with a wide range of health conditions.
University-qualified and ESSA accredited, Exercise Physiologists are experts in understanding how the body responds to physical activity and how exercise can be safely applied to enhance health, manage chronic disease, and rehabilitate injuries.
At Kinetix, our Exercise Physiologists develop tailored exercise programs based on the latest evidence-based practices. Our interventions are designed to help individuals improve strength, mobility, endurance, and overall health, while addressing specific medical conditions or injuries. Our goal is to support long-term health and well-being through targeted interventions that lead to real, lasting results.
Who Benefits from Exercise Physiology?
Exercise Physiology services benefit a wide range of individuals, including those with:
Musculoskeletal Injuries & Chronic Pain
Patients recovering from injuries or surgeries involving bones, joints, muscles, or tendons benefit greatly from exercise-based rehabilitation. Whether you’re dealing with conditions like back pain, osteoarthritis, sports injury or post-surgical recovery, our programs help you regain strength, mobility, and function while minimising pain and reducing the risk of further or re-injury.
Cardiac Health Concerns
For individuals recovering from heart attacks, heart surgeries, or managing chronic heart conditions, our cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to safely improve cardiovascular health. Under close monitoring, we guide patients through tailored exercise plans to enhance heart function, endurance, and overall fitness levels.
Workplace Injuries
If you’ve been injured at work your GP can refer you into our care where we prescribe tailored exercise interventions which can help you recover more quickly and safely return to your job. By focusing on functional strength, flexibility, and muscular endurance, we design programs that address your work-specific tasks to ensure a smoother transition back to your duties (and your life!).
Motor Vehicle Injuries
Patients recovering from motor vehicle accidents often experience a variety of injuries, including whiplash, fractures, or soft tissue damage. Your GP can refer you to see our Exercise Physiologists who will create individualised rehabilitation plans that focus on restoring movement, reducing pain, and preventing long-term complications.
Corporate Healthcare
Exercise Physiology is increasingly being incorporated into workplace wellness programs to promote employee health, reduce absenteeism, and enhance productivity. At Kinetix, we offer corporate health programs that assess employee fitness levels and provide strategies for improving workplace ergonomics, physical well-being, and injury prevention.
Metabolic Conditioning / Chronic Disease Management
Exercise Physiology plays a critical role in managing chronic diseases by addressing the specific needs of each chronic condition. For many chronic health conditions, regular and guided exercise improves the overall presentation of the condition and helps manage symptoms and disease progression.
As an example, here are a few of the common chronic diseases we see in the clinic and how our exercise interventions can be beneficial:
- Diabetes: Exercise can improve insulin sensitivity and help control blood sugar levels by helping the cells to use glucose more efficiently
- Hypertension: Structured exercise programs can help lower blood pressure by strengthening the heart, improving blood flow, and reducing artery pressure.
- Obesity: Exercise programs tailored for weight management can improve overall health and reduce the risk of complications.
- COPD: Regular, monitored exercise improves lung function and quality of life in individuals with chronic respiratory conditions.
- Arthritis: Exercise can reduce joint pain and stiffness, improve mobility, and enhance overall physical function for those living with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
- PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome): Structured exercise can help manage weight, improve insulin sensitivity, and alleviate symptoms associated with PCOS, including hormonal imbalance and metabolic concerns.
